Teeth whitening seems as popular as dying your hair nowadays and like dying your hair, it seems to raise a lot of false expectations. So, let’s set them straight, shall we?

What Are The Different Whitening Procedures?

There are the natural methods and the doctor-assisted methods. For the natural methods, you can use Baking Soda, Lemon Juice, and other homemade materials.

There are also procedures that need a dentist’s assistance like Laser Bleaching. This procedure uses a whitening gel while the laser light releases the crystals and penetrates the teeth enamel. This procedure takes a single trip but it is also expensive.

There are also the whitening strips. It takes some patience because you need to apply it daily for at least 30 minutes. After only a couple of weeks, you’ll see some results. It’s a quick fix but it is not permanent. The whitened teeth will last only for a couple months.

How Much Is It?

Teeth bleaching cost varies from state to state and the Dentist you are getting. Naturally, dentists with more high profile clients would change more. Typically though, it’s no less than $100. Dental insurance does not usually cover this and it goes up as the number of treatments increase which depends on the condition of your teeth

Whitening strips could cost anywhere between $20 to $60.

Is It Effective?

The answer is not as objective as you may think. How white your teeth will become depends on several things. There are some dentists and companies that claim that their procedure or product can whiten your teeth by up to 9 shades. The thing is two to three shades lighter would be significantly noticeable.

There is also no fixed way on how to measure teeth whitening plus the colour of each of your teeth is different. The front teeth are usually the lightest and the ones at the back area are darker. How white your teeth will become depends on the procedure you are going through and your natural teeth colour.
